Plan of Salvation

ROAD SIGNS TO HEAVEN

In your opinion, what do you think it takes for a person to go to heaven when you die? To this question you will get a lot of opinions and a lot of answers. I hope you find the answer to this question as you follow these road signs to heaven.

U-TURN SIGN

The first road sign you will come to is the U-TURN SIGN. This is what repentance is. It is a U-Turn in life. It is an about-face. It is a turn around on the road of life. It means to think differently, it means to reconsider. It is a change of mind that leads to a change of direction and a change of action.

To go to heaven, you must do a U-Turn in the road of life, you must repent. John the Baptist came preaching saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Matthew 3:2 (King James Version) Jesus came preaching, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Matthew 4:17 (King James Version) Jesus also preached saying, I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Luke 13:3 (King James Version)

You must repent of the one sin that will send you to hell and that is the sin of not believing in Jesus Christ and rejecting Him as your personal Lord and Savior.

SOMETHING – First the U-Turn sign tells you that you must turn from something. You must turn from sin and self. You must confess that you are a sinner and you are living your life without Jesus Christ and you cannot save yourself.

Why can’t you save yourself?

1. One reason you can’t save yourself is because you are a sinner. The Bible says, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23 (King James Version)

2. Another reason you cannot save yourself is because you are sinner and deserve to receive the wages your sin has earned which is death. The Bible says, For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23 (King James Version)

3. Third, you cannot save yourself because there is nothing you can do to work your way to heaven and earn salvation because the Bible says we can’t. (8) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (9) Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 (King James Version).

SOMEONE – Therefore, knowing you are a sinner and cannot save yourself the U-Turn signs tells you that you must not only turn from sin and self but you must also turn to Someone and that Someone is Jesus Christ for He is the Savior you so desperately need. The Bible says, 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:16-17 (King James Version)

WORK ZONE SIGN

To find the Savior you helplessly and hopelessly need you must go to and through the WORK ZONE SIGN. The work zone is the work of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary over two thousand years ago.

On the cross, Jesus Christ was doing the work His Father gave Him to do and that was to bear your sins, to die in your place, and to receive the punishment that your sins deserve by shedding His precious blood for you on Calvary.

As you enter this work zone drive carefully, be very observant, and survey that wondrous cross and you will see the Savior you need and what He has done for you. The Bible says, 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. Isaiah 53:5-7 (King James Version)

Look to the cross and you will see that Jesus Christ did everything that needed to be done to be the Savior you so desperately need. The Bible says, (3) For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; (4) And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (King James Version)

The Bible says, For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 (King James Version)

ONE WAY SIGN

The WORK ZONE SIGN then brings you to a third sign you must agree with which is the ONE-WAY SIGN.

Today, the world will tell you that there is more than one way to heaven, but do not listen to them. They will tell you there is more than one God but don’t be taken in by them. They will tell you there are many roads that lead to heaven but don’t let them lead you down a dead-end path. They will tell you that other religious leaders can save you but don’t be fooled. Listen to what Jesus says, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 (King James Version)

Listen to what the Bible says, neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12 (King James Version)

Jesus Christ is the Way, not a way, not one way, but the Way and the only Way for a you to be saved and go to heaven. Therefore, you must come to the ONE-WAY SIGN to get to heaven and you will discover that Jesus Christ is the one and only Way for you to be saved and go to heaven.

LAST FREE EXIT SIGN

As you realize Jesus is the only Way to be saved and go to heaven then you must come to the next sign on the road to heaven. It is a sign that says the LAST FREE EXIT.

Let me ask you, have you ever seen the LAST FREE EXIT SIGN as you have driven down the highway? I have seen it. If you have driven toward a toll road you have probably seen this sign too. One day I was driving on Mopac in Austin, Texas. I was going North toward a toll road. I was not real familiar with Mopac much less driving on a toll road. You see if you drive on Mopac long enough and far enough it turns into a toll road and I did not know this. Well, when I got so far down Mopac I saw this great big sign warning everyone going down that highway saying, Last Free Exit. I didn’t take that exit because I was not sure what the sign meant because I had never driven on that toll road and so I went right past that LAST FREE EXIT SIGN and then it was too late. I had gone past the point of no return and the next thing I knew I was on a toll road and I had to pay the toll bill.

The Bible says, 6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:6-7 (King James Version)

(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) 2 Corinthians 6:2 (King James Version)

On the road to heaven Jesus Christ is the LAST FREE EXIT SIGN. If you pass Him by you will go pass the point of no return and then it will be too late and you will have to pay the toll bill of your sin which is death or eternal separation from God in hell, but if you turn at that LAST FREE EXIT SIGN by turning to Jesus Christ through faith then Jesus will pay your sin debt in full for you and you will receive the free gift of eternal life. The Bible says, For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23 (King James Version)

YIELD SIGN

To take that last free exit that is available to you, you must come to the YIELD SIGN and yield your life to Jesus Christ through faith. The word yield means to give another the right of way. To be saved you must turn your life over to Jesus and give to Jesus the right of way to your life The word yield means to surrender your life to Him. You must quit running from, rebelling, resisting, and rejecting the Lord Jesus Christ and entrust your life to Him as Lord and Savior through faith and allow Him to save you, forgive you, give you eternal life, use you, and someday take you home to be with Him in heaven. To yield your life to Him means you give your life to Him and in return He gives you so much more than you can imagine. For Jesus says, 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and my Father are one. John 10:27-30 (King James Version)

HERE-AND NOW – When you trust Jesus as your Savior Jesus gives life that affects your life here-and-now for Jesus says, the thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10 (King James Version)

HERE-AFTER – The moment you give your life to Jesus Christ He gives life that also affects the here-after for Jesus says, 1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:1-3 (King James Version) Jesus Christ is the only Way to heaven.

PRAYER OF SALVATION

How do you yield your life to Christ for salvation? It is through faith. 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 (King James Version)

The Bible says (9) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (10) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10 (King James Version)

The Bible also says, 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13 (King James Version)

The Bible says if you call on the Lord He will save you. Prayer is an expression of faith. Faith is believing God will do what He says He will do. When you call on Jesus to save your soul and to come into your heart to be your Lord and Savior through faith then He promises to save you. If you would like to call on the Lord right now then bow your head and pray this prayer of faith and salvation and let Jesus take you to heaven one of these days.

Dear God, I am a sinner and I know I deserve to die for my sin, and I admit that I cannot save myself, but I also know that Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose again the third day to save me from my sin. So Jesus I am calling on you through faith asking you to forgive me and save my soul. I am asking you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Jesus, for saving me. In Jesus name, I pray Amen!

If you prayed this prayer please let us know. We would also like to invite you to come and worship the Lord with us at Fredericksburg Baptist Church.
